Catherine Price you have produced an outstanding article Thinking About Diabetes with every Bite which articulately encapsulates your personal experience with T1diabetes! I was diagnosed w/T2 back in March 2001 which my primary care physician treated initially w/oral meds which gave way to going on insulin a couple of years later. Eventually my primary care physician referred me to an Endocrinologist who encouraged me to go on the insulin pump as the state of the art mechanism for even better control. He thinks I'm like a type 1.5 because I exhibit elements of both types. I share your description of how this chronic disease requires a vigilance and almost constant pre-occupation with its proper management that people without the disease are blissfully unaware. Thank you for your encouraging and practical words and here's to cure someday soon...
